The Right Worshipful the Mayor of
Worcester, Councillor Gareth Jones was amongst
the full house audience at Inkberrow Jazz's opening
night concert on Thursday January 15th. Sponsored by Black's of Inkberrow,
the kitchen and bathroom studio in the village, the event was held to raise
funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Inkberrow Jazz
charity evening a "full house" for Alan Barnes's Quartet at The
Bull's Head Inn
Alan Barnes, the internationally
famous jazz saxophonist, delighted the audience with his superb playing and
humorous anecdotes. With David Newton (piano), Matt Miles
(double bass) and Matt Skelton (drums), this all star quartet's renderings
of well known "standards" included "Stella By Starlight",
"Thou Swell", "Body and Soul" and "You Do Something
To Me". They also played some essentially jazz compositions, "Red
Door", "A Child is Born","Green Dolphin Street" and
a specially written "Archer's Blues" based on the well known BBC Radio
2 "soap" theme; to acknowledge Inkberrow's association with this long
running programme.
We are planning another fund raiser gig on Friday April
23rd.
We have lined up a fantastic quartet including
two American jazz "greats" who are on tour at that time.
We will confirm the details once the contracts are signed."
Black's of Inkberrow's M.D., Roger
Black, said: "We were delighted by the
response. Everyone enjoyed it and was more than generous with the fund
raising raffle for Macmillan. We are still getting donations and will announce
the "grand total" shortly.
